The Limousin breed is doing well in New Caledonia!

There are around 1,100 reproductive cows in the Herd-Book. The global population of cattle in New Caledonia is estimated at 110,000 to 120,000 head of which 45,000 are cows. About 2/3 of the cattle are purebred or crossbred Limousin.

Limousin was introduced in 1902 and strongly develop by their connection with saxonnes anglo breed introduced in the 19th century. With their rustic characteristics, ability to adapt, birthing easy, and their superior finished product, which gave the Limousin breed a great opportunity to develop in New Caledonia.

New Caledonia is an Island in the South Pacific. Majority of the breeders who raise Limousin resided on west side of the island where conditions are most suitable. Purebred Limousin herds is one of the biggest breeds in New Caledonia.

There are about 25 Breeders that have chosen the Limousin. These Breeders work with the best French Limousin genetics by artificial insemination and by embryo transplantation. In this regard New Caledonia is the window of opportunity for French genetics in the Pacific.

Nouvelle-Calédonie

La race limousine se porte bien en Nouvelle-Calédonie!

Il y a environ 1100 vaches reproductrices inscrites au Herd-Book.La population globale du cheptel bovin en Nouvelle-Calédonie estestimée entre 110000 et 120000 têtes dont 45000 vaches mères. Près desdeux tiers du cheptel est de race pure ou croisé limousin.

Le Limousin a été introduit en 1902 et s'est fortement développé par rapport aux races anglo saxonnes introduites au 19 ème siècle. C'est avant tout sa rusticité, sa grande capacité d'adaptation, sesbonnes aptitudes au vêlage et bien sûr ses qualités bouchères qui ontpermis à la race limousine de se développer autant en Nouvelle-Calédonie.

La nouvelle-Calédonie est une île dans le Pacifique Sud, mais demeuresur le versant ouest une terre d'élevage. La Nouvelle-Calédonie àcompté des troupeaux limousins de race pure parmi les plus grands.Les éleveurs sélectionneurs de la race limousine (environ 25)travaillent avec le meilleur de la génétique limousine française: parinsémination artificielle et par transplantation embryonnaire.La nouvelle-Calédonie est en quelque sorte le porte-avion de la

génétique française dans le Pacifique.
